Paul Allen is an American investor, Philanthropist, Entrepreneur and Computer Programmer. He was born on Jan 21, 1953, best known as the co-founder of Microsoft alongside Bill Gates. He was 40th richest person in the world in August 2016. His net worth is around $ 18.60 billion. Paul Allen attended Lakeside school that is a private school in Seattle where he met Bill Gates, when he was fourteen years old and at that time Gates was twelve years old.
They both had interest in computers. In 1973, Allen joined Washington state university where he joined Phi Kappa Theta but after two years in 1975, Allen and Gates both became college dropouts. Sometime later, they planned to start a software company which they named Microsoft which became the world largest leading software company. Gates and Allen decided to design a new software that would run now Pc’s.
Gates and Allen reinvented Q-DOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System) as MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) and they installed it as the operating system for IBM’S pc offering.Allen got hold a big deal contract from IBM (International Business Machine) by promising to give them a DOS software. At that time, Microsoft not designed a complicated software yet then Allen went ahead in buying a software which called Q-DOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System) which was written by Tim Peterson. Allen and Gates reinvented the Q-DOS and made it the MS-DOS.
Due to serious illness Allen left Microsoft in 1982, he officially resigned from his position in Nov 2000 and he had still own hundred shares. At the age of thirty, Allen was a billionaire. In 1986, Allen started the company which called Ventures and invested in many sectors like, wireless communication, online directories and hardware. After six years, he founded a Silicon Vally think tank in 1992 called Interval Research. In twelve years (1986-1998) Allen investments were diverse, Telusean (online financial services), America online, Surefind (an online classified ads services), software, hardware and wireless communication etc.
By 1998, he had acquired more than thirty companies under him and he had more than $ 25 billion holding in just cable and internet services in 1999. Paul Allen hold forty three percent from the United State patent and Trade mark office. Allen has given more than $ 2 billion towards the advancement of science, wildlife conservation, education arts, and Technology and community services in his life time. In September 2003, Paul Allen launched the Allen Institute for brain science with a $ 100 million contribution and understanding “How to human brain works”. He had donated $ 500 million to the institute.
